Kathmandu: In a recent development, the Commission for Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA) has apprehended Sunil Paudel, the former managing director of Nepal Telecom, and Bikal Paudel, the former executive director of Security Printing Centre, on charges of corruption.
The CIAA spokesperson, Narahari Ghimire, revealed that the arrests were made based on allegations of the duo illegally depositing funds in foreign banks. The anti-corruption body had previously filed cases against them for the unlawful accumulation of wealth. Additionally, it was discovered that both individuals had been concurrently serving as consultants in international organizations while holding positions within the Nepal government.
Furthermore, the CIAA disclosed that Bikal Paudel had obtained permanent work permission in the United States. His apprehension on Wednesday was deemed necessary to prevent the destruction of evidence and potential attempts to flee the country. Spokesperson Ghimire emphasized that Bikal Paudel's arrest would bolster the ongoing investigation.
This latest move by the CIAA underscores its commitment to combating corruption and ensuring accountability within the government ranks.
